EPANET
[LEAKAGE]

Purpose:

Assigns leakage parameters to individual pipes.

Format:

A line for each pipe subject to leaking that contains:

Remarks

  1. This section is optional.
  2. Average combined leak area is the total area of all cracks assumed to exist per 100 feet (or meters) of pipe.
  3. Experimental values of leak area expansion obtained for single cracks range widely depending on pipe material and diameter, and crack length and geometry (e.g. from 0 (sq mm)/m for small diameter steel and iron, to >100 (sq mm)/m for a 200 mm longitudinal slit in a 50 mm diameter class PN6 PVC pipe). Regardless of experimental values obtained for individual cracks, the value of the expansion parameter used here is also directly dependent on the expected density of leakage-generating cracks. For example, 10 identical cracks per 100 m pipe length, with a single crack expansion rate of 0.1 (sq mm)/m, would be modeled using an expansion parameter of 10 * 0.1 (sq mm)/m = 1 (sq mm)/m.
